About Amelie Housing

The St Vincent de Paul Society (SVdP) is a volunteer based organization which has been assisting the marginalized and disadvantaged in Australia for over 140 years. SVdP is one of the largest non-government agencies in the nation and is committed to “live the gospel message by Christ in serving the poor with love, respect, justice and joy, and by working to shape a more compassionate society”.

Amélie Housing is the name of the national community housing provider organisation established by St Vincent de Paul Society (the Society) in Australia.

The Society is a lay Catholic organisation that aspires to live the gospel message by serving Christ in people with love, respect, justice, hope and joy, and by working to shape a more just and compassionate society.

Over the last decade, the declining affordability of housing in Australia and the increasing poverty and homelessness amongst the poorest members of all communities led the Society at a national level to make affordable housing one of its highest priorities.

As a consequence, the Society began working at a local, state and national level to advocate for greater government commitment to the supply of social and affordable housing and to collaborate in the development of structures that would enable the Society to participate more effectively in the provision of housing services.

One of the key priorities for Amélie Housing is to grow the supply of social and affordable housing provided by the Society and ultimately create more affordable housing.

Over the next two years, Amélie Housing will have approximately 2,000 properties under its management. The properties are located across NSW, ACT and South Australia.

Amélie Housing is a Registered Tier 1 Community Housing Provider under the National Regulatory System for Community Housing.
