About Metro Community Housing Co-op Ltd
Metro Community Housing is a small housing association located in and operating primarily in the Inner West of Sydney. We manage 110 properties owned by the NSW Land and Housing Corporation and receive funding from the Department of Communities and Justice to head-lease a minimum of 261 properties from the private rental market which we then sub-let to our tenants.
Our primary function is the management of long term social housing tenancies and properties for people who meet the income eligibility and residency requirements to be admitted onto the NSW Housing Register but we also own a small portfolio of studio, one bedroom and two bedroom units located in the Inner West and Canterbury-Bankstown Local Government areas.
Metro has been involved with several "housing first" which provide housing and wrap around support (contracted) to people exiting long term homelessness - primarily those who have been street sleeping and had insecure, unsuitable housing for long periods of time. We have committed to providing permanent long term housing to people exiting those housing first programs at the end of the funding period. We also have a focus on providing time limited transitional housing for people nominated by specialist homelessness or community based support services to provide security and stability whilst people await a permanent offer of social housing or address issues related to exiting Domestic and Family violence, drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs, psychiatric units or prison.
